YMCA hosts Tri-At-The-Y triathalon
The second super-sprint triathlon, Tri-At-The-Y, for anyone 12 and older, will be at 10 a.m. March 27, beginning at the Y’s Floyd County branch, 33 State St., New Albany.
The event combines healthful family and individual exercise with raising money for the YMCA of Southern Indiana’s Strong Kids Campaign to make programs available to everyone, regardless of ability to pay. The triathalon will be in a winter format, consisting of eight miles on a bike, two miles running, and 300 yards in the Y’s swimming pool. Racers will be grouped into divisions by gender and for every five years of age. Following the event, the Y will post rankings by those groupings. Beginning at 8 a.m., participants may pick up packets at the front desk. They are required to wear an ANSI-approved helmet and are encouraged to arrive early to become familiar with the race’s transition locations. The mandatory pre-race meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. Tri-At-The-Y is especially good for first-timers, according to Callaway, because it is shorter than a traditional triathlon and is unique because it is out of the traditional season for such races. Participants should register by downloading a form from the Y’s Web site at ymcasi.org and mailing it with a check payable to the YMCA of Southern Indiana, 33 State St., New Albany,
Cost is $35 for YMCA members and $45 for non-members.
Call Julie Callaway at 812-283-9622 ext. 220 for more information.
