FLOYD COUNTY — A New Albany man was arrested Sunday after a 29-year-old woman reported that she had been physically assaulted in a parking lot.
Alonzo Mitchell, 38, of the 1200 block of Minton Drive in new Albany, was arrested on preliminary charges of class D felony domestic battery and was booked into the Floyd County Jail at about 8 a.m.
The woman reported that Mitchell was waiting for her in a parking lot near her apartment building, according to a New Albany Police Department news release. She claimed Mitchell hit her and she fell to the ground. The incident reportedly occurred in front of the victim’s 9-year-old child.
The extent of the woman’s injuries was not immediately known, although she showed obvious physical signs of being battered, according to NAPD.
Man wanted in Washington Co. arrested for drugs
A Palmyra man was arrested by NAPD on multiple felony charges Sunday afternoon after he was stopped for an investigation of a fictitious registration plate displayed on his car.
During an investigation in a parking lot near Captain Frank Road and State Street at about 2:30 p.m., police learned Christopher Wayne Knight, 24, of the 1100 block of East Palmyra Lake Road, had an outstanding warrant issued in Washington County charging him with theft, a class D felony.
While Knight was being arrested, police also discovered Xanax and Lortab. Knight was charged preliminary in Floyd County with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony.
He was booked into the Floyd County Jail.
Thefts, burglaries reported in Floyd County
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a report of a burglary in the 5100 block of Everett Avenue in Galena, according to a crime alert.
According to a report taken Sunday morning, someone forced entry into a residence and stole several items.
Another report was taken Sunday morning in the 7900 block of County Line Road in New Albany. Someone reportedly broke out several vehicle windows, and items had been stolen from one vehicle.
The sheriff’s department is also investigating a burglary in the 200 block of Baylor Wisman Road in Georgetown. The burglary reportedly occurred Friday. According to a crime alert, someone forced entry into the residence and items were taken.
Also, a theft report was taken in the 4100 block of Emma Lou Drive. Items were reportedly stolen outside of a residence Friday.

Two New Albany woman arrested on warrants
Two New Albany women were arrested for unrelated outstanding arrest warrants.
Toya R. Best, 29, of the 1100 block of Beeler Street, was arrested in the 900 block of East 11th Street after police were sent to investigate a suspicious vehicle in an alley. Best was found inside the suspicious vehicle and a routine warrant check revealed she was wanted for failing to appear in connection with a theft charge in Floyd County.
In a second incident at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Michelle Marie Torstrick, 29, was arrested on a Clark County warrant charging her with failure to appear on a theft charge. Torstrick was arrested after police were sent to an apartment in the 100 block of Riverside Dive to investigate a civil dispute.
Police learned about the warrant while investigating that case.
Both were taken to the Floyd County Jail awaiting an initial hearing.
