Library to host ‘Constitution Week’
The Piankeshaw Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library are presenting “Constitution Week” on the first floor of the library at 180 W. Spring St., New Albany, through the month of September.
September 17 to 23 commemorates the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America. This great document, the guardian of our liberties, established our Republic as a self-governing nation dedicated to rule by law. There is information about the Constitution, the 55 signers of the Constitution, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Children will enjoy the fun and educational sheets they can take home to learn more about the Constitution. There are crossword puzzles, connect the dots, mazes, seek and finds and a proclamation that the children can sign after reading the constitution. Gallery on Pearl hosts clay exhibit
The Gallery on Pearl LLC will host a special exhibit reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 17 at the gallery, 222 Pearl St., New Albany, and featuring recent works by two prominent local artists.
The show, titled “Emerging Clay: New Ceramic Artworks by Dolita Dohrman and Steve Goodwin,” will run from Sept. 17 to Oct. 30. Refreshments will be served at the opening. Both ceramic artists have experienced major growth in their work with clay after earlier times in their lives when they focused in other directions. The current period of special creativity has given them new meaning as artists. The show demonstrates their art as “emerging” and “new.” Also, on display will be thematic paintings by a Minnesota artist, Mark Carlson, celebrating the successful struggle of many women against breast cancer. Normal summer hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
