NEW ALBANY —
Former Environmental Management Corp. employee Robert Sartell has been hired as New Albany Wastewater Utility Director.
Sartell — who oversaw the city’s sewer treatment facility through the end of 2012 as an EMC employee — has 35 years of experience in wastewater operations.
Mayor Jeff Gahan, with the approval of the New Albany Sewer Board, decided to end privatization of the wastewater utility last year. EMC’s contract with the city expired on Dec. 31.
According to the city, Sartell is certified with an Indiana Class IV Wastewater Treatment License and an Indiana Class A Industrial Wastewater License.
“Mr. Sartell is a 35-year veteran of the industry,” Gahan said Wednesday. “His guidance and expertise in his field will be invaluable as New Albany brings this utility back in house for our bicentennial year.”
Jim Garrard was hired last year to serve as Sewer Utility Transition director. He said Sartell “has the qualifications, capability and experience to ensure that the plant operates at a high level.”
