Thanksgiving book sale upcoming
The Friends of the New Albany Library will hold its annual Thanksgiving book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the library’s Annex Building, 180 W. Spring St. New Albany.
All books in the cookbook and diet book section will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks; 50 cents for videos, DVDs and paperbacks; 25 cents for audio book cassette tapes; and 10 cents for magazines. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less.
Christmas on a budget

Come to the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library’s first in a three-part series of “How-to-Holidays” workshops, from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in the Strassweg Auditorium.
Emily Smith, mother of four, will share her insights on how to get the most from Black Friday, get the best deals without breaking the bank.

Church hosting dessert auction
Atkins Chapel Church, 7834 Atkins Road, Floyds Knobs, will sponsor a dessert auction Saturday, Nov. 17.
Free soup supper starts at 5:30 p.m. with the dessert auction at 6 p.m.

Thanksgiving breakfast planned
A Thanksgiving Breakfast is planned from 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Nov. 18, at the St. John’s Starlight Parish Hall/gym, 8310 St. John Road.
Sausage, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and more will be on the menu. All donations will go to the C.J. Smith Memorial Endowment and will be matched by the Harrison County Community Foundation. Endowment proceeds provide a summer ministry opportunity in the New Albany Deanery for a young adult who is exploring a vocation in youth ministry. GEORGETOWN
Highland Hills hosts talent show
The first Highland Hills Talent Show will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in the auditorium, with acts ranging from bands, skits, singers, dancers and gymnasts, to name a few. Participating will be students in fifth through eighth grades. Floyd Central Theatre Arts actors and tech students are helping to direct the show.
Proceeds from the show will be donated to Miles for Merry Miracles, a community based non-profit, youth-led organization that strives to provide Christmas for kids in their community that might not otherwise have a Christmas. In addition to the outstanding entertainment, there will be Angel Tree representatives with Angels for Adoption and refreshments available.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and can be purchased the night of the show beginning at 5 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The school is located at 3492 Edwardsville Galena Road, Georgetown.
CHARLESTOWN
5K to help feed the hungry
The Get Nothing and Love It 5K run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Charlestown State Park, Ind. 62, Charlestown.
There will be no T-shirts, no medals, just warm hearts. Entry fee is $10 or $10 worth of nonperishable foods.
Event day registration at the park will begin at 7:30 a.m.. Preregistration will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Eastside Christian Church, 2319 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville.
JEFFERSONVILLE
Parks hosting seniors events
The Jeffersonville Parks Department will sponsor a SOAR Senior Outing Nov. 21 to Horseshoe Casino.
Departing from the Ken Ellis Center at 10 a.m. and returning at about 4:30 p.m., the trip is $5 and includes a $12 food comp and $5 in slot play. The deadline to register is Friday, Nov. 16. The department also will sponsor a SOAR trip to the Holiday Gift and Decor show at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7. The trip is free but space is limited. Registration deadline is Nov. 30.
