FLOYDS KNOBS —
A husband and wife were arrested in their home after several bags of methamphetamine were found during a visit by a Floyd County Child Protective Services official to check on the welfare of the couple’s 4-year-old child, Indiana State Police reported.
Eric L. Bowman, 40, and Crystal N. Bowman, 28, of 4194 Scottsville Road in Floyds Knobs, have each been charged in Floyd County courts with possession of methamphetamine, a class D felony.
The CPS visit to the home was instigated after Crystal Bowman was in an area hospital, days earlier, for overdosing on methamphetamine, Indiana State Police Master Trooper Wilbur Turner said. He said CPS was notified after nursing staff interviewed Crystal Bowman, who said she had a child. Turner assisted the CPS officer during the visit Wednesday, Dec. 19, with Crystal Bowman, Eric Bowman and the young child present in the home.
As the CPS officer conducted a walk through, Turner discovered in a bedroom, sitting in plain view, two plastic bags containing white powder, later identified as methamphetamine, sitting on a laptop computer lying on top of a bed. Turner later said each of the bags contained about 1 gram of methamphetamine.
Turner preliminarily charged Eric Bowman and Crystal Bowman with possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and neglect of a dependent, but the Office of the Floyd County Prosecutor has only issued each with the possession charge.
Since her arrest, Crystal Bowman was released from Floyd County Jail after $1,000 of the $10,000 court-cash bond was posted, according to court documents.
Her next hearing date was not available as of press time.
Eric Bowman, who was also given a $10,000 court-cash bond, is scheduled to appear for a pretrial conference Jan. 17.
