K of C hosting chicken dinner

The Knights of Columbus, 225 E. Market St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat chicken dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the K of C Hall.

The menu will be chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese, potatoes and gravy, slaw, drink and dessert is $8.

A large portion of the proceeds will be given to Father Tom for the Haiti Disaster Relief Fund.



Free health screenings offered

Spalding University nursing students are offering a free health screening and educational health fair to the Jeffersonville community from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, at Cross Road International Church, 424 Wall St., Jeffersonville.

Free blood pressure checks and education on some of the leading diseases and medical issues of adult men and women will be available.

Archaeological society to meet

The Falls of the Ohio Archaeological Society meeting will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center, 201 W. Riverside Drive, Clarksville.

Mindi Wetzel, staff archaeologist for Corn Island Archaeology, will present information the firm’s investigations at Colson Park in Jeffersonville. Records indicated the site was originally the Old City Cemetery, which was confirmed by their excavations.

Archbishop to visit SMK

The Most Rev. Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., the recently appointed and installed archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis, will visit the New Albany Deanery on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Archbishop Tobin will celebrate the Eucharist for all members of the deanery at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, 3033 Martin Road, Floyds Knobs, at 7 p.m. This visit coincides with the observance of Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 28-Feb. 1.

A reception in the parish hall will follow the liturgy. All are welcome to come celebrate and greet the new archbishop.

The Music Department at Indiana University Southeast will present the Ceruti Chamber Players, 3 p.m., Jan. 27, at the Richard K. Stem Concert Hall of the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center on the IU Southeast campus, 4201 Grant Line Road in New Albany. Admission is free.

Make penguins at the Carnegie Center

The Carnegie Center Free Family Fun Workshop for January will offer Felt Penguin making from 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the center, 201 East Spring St., New Albany. Parents should bring an empty cardboard toilet paper roll for each child to use in their construction.

Registration for the workshop is required and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
