BMV branches closed for MLK Day
All branches of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be closed Saturday, Jan. 19 through Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, according to a press release from BMV Commissioner R. Scott Waddell. Locations will resume normal operating hours Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Brain injury group to meet
The January meeting of the Southern Indiana Traumatic Brain Injury Foundation will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the Education Conference Room at Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, 3401 Blackiston Blvd., New Albany.

NA-FC Library book sale set
The Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will hold its annual science fiction and fantasy book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in the library’s annex building, at the corner of Spring Street and Scribner Drive, New Albany.
All books in the science fiction, fantasy and new age sections will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardback books, 50 cents for videos, DVDs and paperbacks, 25 cents for
audio book cassette tapes and 10 cents for magazines and music cassette tapes. Children’s books are available for $1 or less. For more information, call 812-949-3523.
Archbishop to visit SMK
The Most Rev. Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., the recently appointed and installed archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis, will visit the New Albany Deanery on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Archbishop Tobin will celebrate the Eucharist for all members of the deanery at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, 3033 Martin Road, Floyds Knobs, at 7 p.m. This visit coincides with the observance of Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 28-Feb. 1.
A reception in the parish hall will follow the liturgy. All are welcome to come celebrate and greet the new archbishop.

Tailgate dinner at DePauw
DePauw Methodist Church, across from New Albany High School, will be holding a Tailgate dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, before the New Albany basketball game.

Serenity House plans benefit
In honor of Will Cundiff, B.J. Denney and eight other young men and women who have passed away from the results of addiction in the last six months, there will be a celebration of their lives with all proceeds to benefit the Serenity House Building Fund Inc. Serenity House is a halfway house located in Jeffersonville, serving both Indiana and Kentucky.
The benefit will be from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at Kye’s I and II, Water Tower Square, Jeffersonville. Food will be compliments of local caterers with a cash bar available. Live auction of art by local artists and Guy Tedesco.

Sacred Heart will host open house
Sacred Heart School, 1842 E. Eight St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor an open house from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Jan. 27 at the school.
The faith-filled school provides classes preschool through eighth grade with all-day kindergarten. Daycare and before and after school care is also provided.
