The New Albany Police Department arrested four people in two separate drug-related investigations this week, officials announced Friday.
On Thursday, NAPD and a Floyd County Community Corrections officer arrested two residents of the 1600 block of Culbertson Avenue following drug-dealing allegations, NAPD Cpl. Todd Bailey said in a news release. Bryan A. Smythers, 23, was arrested in a traffic stop for allegedly dealing a controlled substance.
Other officers went to his Culbertson Avenue residence and found about $30,000 of drugs and more than $3,000 in cash, Bailey said. The drugs found include cocaine, heroin, marijuana, the painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone, and other pills.
Oxycodone is a Schedule II substance found in pills such as Percocet and Oxycontin, while hydrocodone is the Schedule III drug that helps compose the painkiller Vicodin.
During the search, Cynthia J. Speth, 24, was at the residence and is allegedly involved in the drug ring, Bailey said. She was arrested on suspicion of maintaining a common nuisance.
Bailey also announced Friday the Tuesday arrests of two residents of the 1700 block of Ekin Avenue after a lengthy investigation. Sueann Tucker, 30, and Brian Tucker, 32, were suspected of being a “major” illegal pill-selling operation, Bailey said.
Undercover officers and informants were used to help secure the warrants. Officers first learned of the alleged operations through complaints to the NAPD crime tip line.
Both of the accused were arrested on warrants for dealing in and possession of controlled substances, possession of paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance.
When officers arrived at the location, tablets of Xanax were found after Sueann Tucker tried to ingest them, Bailey said. Xanax is a schedule IV sedative, commonly prescribed for anxiety and insomnia.
“These arrests [are] a key in our ongoing fight to curb narcotic problems in
New Albany and Southern Indiana,” Bailey said.
Information on upcoming court dates was not available as of deadline.
