Single-car crash claims life of Elizabeth man
Accident happened at the Ind. 62 and Ind. 11 intersection
An Elizabeth man died Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Georgetown, police said.
Christopher L. Knight, 44, died after his 1996 Toyota pickup truck crashed around 8:10 a.m. at Ind. 62 and Ind. 11, said Floyd County Police Officer Brad Scott in a news release.
Knight was driving the truck northbound on Ind. 62 and veered off the roadway north of the intersection at Ind. 11, Scott said. At that point, the truck went over an embankment and crashed into a tree. The driver, who was not ejected from the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt.
It is believed the fatality might have been prevented if Knight had worn a seatbelt, Scott said.
The accident is still under investigation, but preliminary examinations show that wet roads are a likely cause, Scott said.
Members of the Indiana State Police, through a partnership called the Floyd County Combined Accident Reconstruction Team, also responded to the accident, Scott said. Members of that effort have been trained in accident diagramming.
Yellow Ambulance, the Floyd County Coroner’s Office and Georgetown Township Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
