Parade to kick off Harvest Homecoming

NEW ALBANY — If you plan on attending the Harvest Homecoming parade Saturday afternoon, there will be a noticeable difference in the air.

The sound of music.

While there will be just two high school bands in the lineup — New Albany and South Central — there will be several teenage bands which will fill the streets with music.

The parade will leave New Albany High School at noon, travel down Vincennes Street and turn west on Spring Street. Participants will travel down Spring before ending at Bank Street.

“I think it’s definitely better this year,” said Kathy Baker, vice president in charge of the parade. “We have a lot more music and the turnout and interest has been wonderful.”

Besides teenage bands and the two high school marching bands, the Kosair Shriner Oriental Band is also in the parade. There are 119 units scheduled to participate.

Baker also said there are more floats in this year’s event.

“I think we are up a little this year [entries]. I think the big difference will be the number of musical groups.”

Opening ceremonies for Harvest Homecoming will be held at 11:30 a.m. near the viewing area at Seventh and Spring streets.

The parade is not the only Harvest Homecoming event this weekend. Other festival events, including one in
