Autumn Woods needs children’s hats, gloves

Autumn Woods is seeking donations of children’s hats, gloves, scarves and mittens for K-3 students at the Children’s Academy of New Albany, with collections taken now through Dec. 15 at Autumn Woods, 2911 Green Valley Road, New Albany.

The campus is also accepting donations of new or gently used books for these children as well. With the tough economic times, we would like every child to have a book and a new hat or gloves for Christmas.

Providence alumni hosting Breakfast With Santa

Our Lady of Providence Junior-Senior High School’s Alumni Association will host its second annual Breakfast With Santa from 9 to 11 a.m. on Nov. 28, in the school’s Activity Center, 707 Providence Way.

A continental breakfast will be served. In addition to special guest, there will be Christmas music, crafts for the kids, and Alexander Photography Studio will be available to take pictures of your child’s visit with Santa.

A tour of the junior high will be available for students from St. Paul, St. Mary of the Knobs, and St. Joe Corydon Catholic grades schools.

Donations will be accepted to help St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities and cover food costs.

State Police to conduct D.U.I. check point Nov. 25-26

The Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg will conduct a driving under the influence enforcement check point in Floyd County beginning in the evening hours of Nov. 25 and ending in the early morning hours of Nov. 26.

Motorists that are not impaired can expect only short delays of two to three minutes while passing through the check point.

Hosparus Holiday Marketplace & Tea

Hosparus will host a Holiday Marketplace & Tea, from 1 to 3 p.m., Dec. 6, at Kye’s, 1220 Missouri Ave., Jeffersonville.

After shopping with 20 local vendors for everything from holiday gifts to your favorite cosmetics and most anything else you can think of, you’ll want to “sit a spell” while celebrity waiters bring you delicious finger foods from Chardeau’s Classic Catering and perhaps a spot of tea or cup of coffee from Consumers Choice. Aren’t you more relaxed just thinking about it? Proceeds from the Hosparus Holiday Marketplace benefit local patients and their families.

IUS has scholarships for children

The Arts Institute at Indiana University Southeast is pleased to announce that — thanks to a generous gift from the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County — several scholarships are available to children and teens who might not otherwise have the means to study a musical instrument.

These scholarships provide up to $200 for school-aged children and teens to study a musical instrument or voice at the Indiana University Southeast Arts Institute. In order to qualify for these scholarships, students (or the students’ parent) must provide a letter from their school verifying that they are on the free or reduced lunch program. In addition to a statement from the school, the student should also provide a letter from a current or recent music teacher or other musician recommending the student for the scholarship. These materials should be submitted with the student’s Arts Institute registration form.

Scholarships are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and will be awarded until funds have been exhausted. The Institute offers private lessons in keyboard, voice, and stringed, brass and wind instruments. Classes in the Suzuki method (violin, cello, and piano), adult piano, theatre, vocal training and music technology applications are available. All classes are non-credit and are held on the IUS campus in the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center.
