New Albany police arrested two men Wednesday when it was learned they had outstanding arrest warrants.
At about 2:45 p.m., a patrol officer asked for a routine warrant check of Donald George Sleets, 39, of the 200 block of Erni Avenue, when he observed Sleets at the corner of State and Oak streets, according to a press release from the New Albany Police Department. The officer discovered that Sleets was wanted in Indiana for a parole violation and took the man into custody.
At 7:20 p.m., a second man, James E. Dunz, 50, of the Plaza Square Apartments, was taken into custody at his residence after officers learned he had an outstanding warrant issued in Floyd County charging him with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit.
Both men were booked into the Floyd County Jail pending further disposition.
New Salisbury man arrested for OWI, drug related charges
At 11 p.m. Wednesday, officers were sent to the 1200 block of Minton Drive on the report that a man driving a truck in that area was verbally harassing a woman.
When the officer arrived in the area she observed a truck being driven erratically near the intersection of Woodland Drive and Graybrook Lane by a man she later identified as 27-year-old Steven Brad Bezy, of the 7600 block of Ind. 135 NE, in New Salisbury. It appeared to the officer that Bezy was intoxicated and he allegedly tested .14 percent BAC (blood alcohol concentration) when given a breath test at the Floyd County Jail. Further investigation by the arresting officer revealed that Bezy’s driving privileges were suspended.
During the investigation Bezy was allegedly found to be in possession of marijuana and the controlled drug Xanex.
Bezy was preliminarily charged with driving without a license, driving while suspended, operating while intoxicated (second offense), possession of marijuana, a class D felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony.
Bezy was processed into the Floyd County Jail pending further disposition.
