H1N1 Clinic offered
Floyd County Health Department will offer a walk-in H1N1 vaccination clinic for people, ages 6 months and up, and for children, 9 years and younger needing a second dose of the vaccine (the first dose must have been received at least 28 days prior), from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Floyd County 4-H Fairgrounds, Green Valley Road, New Albany.
There is no fee for the vaccination.

Friends of the New Albany Library host special Book Sale
The Friends of the New Albany Library will host their first book sale of 2010 in celebration of their 10th anniversary, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 2 in the library’s Annex Building. They will celebrate Isaac Asimov’s birthday and offer a 50 percent discount in two sections: Science & Nature and in Science Fiction & Fantasy. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks and videos; 50 cents for paperbacks and CD’s; 25 cents for cassette tapes; 10 cents for magazines; and 5 cents for vinyl records. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less. Because of an over supply of children’s books, there will be some children’s books offered free outside the Annex Building, weather permitting.

Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University set to begin Jan. 6
Financial Peace University, a 13-week program taught by Dave Ramsey, will be presented at two churches in New Albany, beginning in January.
Graceland Baptist Church will host classes at 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 6, at the church, 3600 Kamer-MIller Road; and Culbertson Baptist Church will host classes at 6:30 p.m., beginning Jan. 7, at the church, 4007 Grant Line Road. The university has helped more than one million families positively change their financial future by teaching them how to handle their money through common-sense principles and small group accountability. As they work on a Total Money Makeover, the average family pays off $5,300 in debt and saves $2,700 in the first 91 days after beginning FPU and is completely out of debt, except for the mortgage, in 18 to 24 months.
Each class participant needs a kit. Special rates are routinely available online at daveramsey.com or by calling 888-227-3223. Included in the cost of the kit is a lifetime family membership to FPU, allowing the participant to return to any class at anytime for a refresher course. The kit also includes an FPU workbook, an FPU envelope system, 13 audio lessons, bonus CD, budgeting forms, debit card holders, and Ramsey’s best-selling book, “Financial Peace.”

Daycare announces Pre-K opening
A Child’s Heart Daycare and Preschool, a ministry of Heartland Church of Nazarene, has openings for the Spring session of its Pre-K program, which begins Jan. 4, at the church, 6901 Old Vincennes Road, Floyds Knobs, a half mile from Floyd Central High School.
The Pre-K program is designed to expose children to many learning opportunities and participation in a group environment and prepare them for Kindergaten. Classes will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Children must be four-years-old by Aug. 1, 2009 in order to register for the program. Openings are also available for before and after school childcare, which offers homework assistance, activities, and transportation to and from Galena, Greenville, Floyds Knobs, and Georgetown Elementary Schools.
The program is open to all eligible children in the community; however, space is limited.
