Body found in cave may be missing Georgetown man

Spelunker went missing Oct. 1 in Crawford County

LEAVENWORTH — A body discovered in a Crawford County cave Sunday afternoon is likely that of missing Georgetown man Kevin Eve, according to investigators.

Conservation Officer Jeff Milner said they believe it is Eve based on evidence found at the scene. The 25-year-old spelunker, a veteran of the war in Iraq, was last seen Oct. 1 in Corydon.

Police received a report late Sunday afternoon about a body in Breathing Hole Cave not far from where Eve’s car was found Oct. 3. It appeared he had left his cave exploring equipment at home.

Emergency workers and volunteers searched hundreds of acres of wilderness and dozens of caves in Harrison-Crawford State Forest, but their search was suspended Oct. 23.

As of Monday afternoon, conservation officers were still in the process of removing the body.

“It’s a 154-foot descent going down. It’s real tight premises that even some of our bigger cavers haven’t been able to fit through, so it’s been a long process,” he said.

The cause of death is still under investigation.
