4-H Board seeks new members
The Floyd County 4-H Corporation Board is seeking members for its Board of Directors and elections will take place at the Board’s Annual Meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 in Newlin Hall at the 4-H Fairgrounds, 2818 Green Valley Road, New Albany.

Library book sale Saturday
The Friends of the New Albany Library will have their annual Kentuckiana Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the library’s Annex Building.
All books about Kentucky and Indiana or by Kentuckians and Hoosiers will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks and videos; 50 cents for paperbacks and CD’s; 25 cents for cassette tapes; 10 cents for magazines; and 5 cents for vinyl records. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less. Art reproductions from the library are now on special sale for $10 and $5 — the frames alone make these a great bargain.

Farmers’ Market celebrates Going Local with Iron Chef competition
The New Albany Farmers’ Market is “Going Local” with an Iron Chef Competition with local chefs as well as other activities for the family from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the corner of Bank and Market streets in New Albany.
The fun-filled morning of magic includes a local magician, contests for adults and children, including a Zucchini 500 Competition (race) for ages 5 to 10 at 10:20 a.m. (registration at 9 a.m.) and a watermelon contest for ages 11 to 100, then at noon, the Iron Chef competition will begin with awards given at 1:15 p.m.

Floyd County Democrats to host picnic
The Floyd Democrats will host a Picnic at noon Sept. 12 at the Garry E. Cavan Park (Edwardsville Park), 6485 Corydon Ridge Road, Georgetown, in Shelter 1, the large covered barn.

IUS hosts auditions for ‘Our Town’
The Theatre Department at Indiana University Southeast will host open auditions for its fall 2010 production of Thornton Wilder’s timeless American classic play, “Our Town,” at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 to 12 in the Robinson Theater of the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center on the IUS campus, 4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany.
Auditions are open to anyone in the Southern Indiana and Louisville area. Roles for 17 males, seven females and extras are available. Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute monologue of any type.

LOUISVILLE
Alzheimer’s Association hosts Memory Walk
The Alzheimer’s Association will host its 2010 Memory Walk at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at Waterfront Park’s Great Lawn on the Ohio River in Louisville. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Participants can choose two routes, one is a half-mile long and the other is one and a half miles long.
This annual event helps raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease in Kentucky, and is organized by the Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Louisville walk is one of nearly a dozen being organized in the Chapter’s service area this year. Register to be a team captain or make a donation.
