A 52-year-old New Albany man is facing a felony charge for failing to pay a taxi fare Thursday night.
James R. Jarboe, of the 200 block of Solemner Avenue in New Albany, was arrested after a Checker Cab Company driver complained about the man not paying his cab fare.
The New Albany Police Department responded to West Cottom Avenue and State Street at about 11:45 p.m. on Thursday to investigate. The cab driver told police that the man owed him $15.50 in taxi fare but refused to pay, according to an NAPD news release.
Officers reported that Jarboe was obviously intoxicated. He was charged on Friday with class D felony theft and class B misdemeanor public intoxication. He was released after posting $500 court cash bond.
Man cited for possession of paraphernalia
A New Albany man was issued a citation to appear in court after police found drug paraphernalia in his car during a traffic stop.
An NAPD officer observed Gary Lynn Jenkins, 41, of the 4000 block of Reas Lane in New Albany, disregard a red traffic signal at the intersection of Green Valley Road and Daisy Lane at about 12:40 a.m. on Friday, according to a police news release.
The officer stopped the vehicle at the entrance to the New Albany Plaza shopping complex where police found what they described as a “homemade smoking gadget” that was made from a socket wrench. It contained suspected marijuana residue.
Jenkins was issued a citation for possession of paraphernalia and released pending a court appearance in the near future. He was not cited for the traffic violation.
