ELIZABETH —
Meredith Endris had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and four blocked shots while battling through a knee injury as Providence defeated South Central 43-37 on the road on Wednesday.
The Pioneer senior went 4-for-8 from the 3-point line in the victory.
“She stepped up all night long,” Providence coach Brad Burden said. “Every time we needed a score, she was there for us. She was huge.”
The triumph was the fourth for the Pioneers, who are attempting to have their first winning season since 2002-03, in seven games. A road win against a strong program could go a long way toward reaching that goal.
“It was a great road win against a great program,” Burden said. “[South Central coach] Randall Schoen is one of the best coaches in the whole state and their homecourt advantage is substantial. For our young team to come through like that is big for this team and this program.”
Lillian Hughes added 11 points and Nichole Tucker scored nine, including a pair of 3-pointers, for Providence. Kelsey Miller led the Rebels with 14 points.
The Pioneers off until Nov. 30 when they travel to Salem, which is currently 4-1 after a 50-41 victory over West Washington on Tuesday. The Lions also won at South Central by six points on Nov. 9.
