BLOOMINGTON —
Floyd Central senior Dylan Nichols finished third at Tuesday’s Bloomington Diving Regional to qualify for the state finals at IUPUI in Indianapolis on Saturday.
Nichols scored a 397 to finish behind Michael Peterson of Perry Meridian and Center Grove’s Josh Carmichael.
“I thought I dove very well,” Nichols said. “I was seeded third and that’s what I was going for.”
The trip to the state finals will be the second for Nichols, who finished fifth at last year’s regional then placed 31st at state.
“He’s got the experience that, hopefully, he could probably put himself in the top 20 and into the [second] round,” Floyd head coach Joe Perkins said. “Third at the regional puts him in pretty good position, already ahead of [five] divers.”
Nichols is hoping to make the final round at state. That would require a top-16 finish in the second round.”
“I should be able to advance to the second round,” Nichols projected. “The second round, I’ll have to dive really good and hope for the best.”
