Bryant, Scott named to Silver Anniversary team
Former Jeffersonville High School standout Paris Bryant and former Graceland Christian standout and 1988 Indiana All-Star David Scott have been selected to the 2013 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Men’s Silver Anniversary team.
Bryant ranks fifth on the Red Devils’ all-time scoring list with 1,273 points. Bryant played on Jeff’s 1987 and 1988 sectional championship teams. He went on to play college basketball at three schools, including the University of Wyoming, and professional basketball for 15 years in Europe.
Scott was the all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Graceland Christian, which is now Christian Academy of Indiana. Scott went on to play his college ball at Miami (Ohio), where he currently ranks 11th on the school’s career scoring list. Scott made the all-Mid-American Conference team three times. Scott played pro basketball from 1993-2005 in several countries.

The Silver Anniversary team members will be honored at the Hall of Fame men’s banquet on Wednesday, March 20 at the Primo Banquet Hall in Indianapolis.

Area players make IFCA All-State teams
Several Clark-Floyd area players have been selected to the Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State football teams.
Clarksville senior Jake Matthews earned a spot on the Class 2A Senior All-State team as a defensive lineman. Providence junior Owen Mattingly made the Class 2A Junior team as a defensive back.
Two local players received berths on the Class 3A Senior All-State squad. Charlestown senior Leighton Brewer made the team as an offensive lineman, while Silver Creek senior Layne Taylor got on the squad as a defensive back. Charlestown junior Desmond Wiley earned a spot on the Class 3A Junior team as a defensive lineman.
Jeffersonville junior Dionte Allen made the Class 5A Junior All-State squad as a tight end.
Charlestown senior quarterback and defensive back Aaron Daniel was named to the IFCA’s All-State Top 50 players list. But he did not earn a spot on the Class 3A Senior All-State squad.
NA’s McDuffy wins Ivy Tech Scholar Athlete of the Year award
New Albany High School junior defensive lineman Damian McDuffy has won the Ivy Tech Community College Scholar Athlete of the Year award, which also is sponsored by the Indianapolis Colts. McDuffy beat out eight other finalists from across the state for the honor.
McDuffy is a Bulldog scholar at NAHS, where he has a 4.0 grade-point average. McDuffy also is involved in several non-profit organizations. One of them is the Lupus Foundation, as his sister has the disease.
McDuffy will receive the award during halftime of the Colts’ home game on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium. During the presentation, he will get a scholarship from Ivy Tech.

FC graduate heading to Division II Elite Eight
Floyd Central graduate Jamie Wallace and the University of Indianapolis volleyball team will be competing in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight tournament, starting Thursday in Pensacola, Fla.
Wallace is a freshman for the Greyhounds and has played in eight matches.
Indianapolis won the Midwest Regional last Saturday at home to earn the Elite Eight berth, defeating Hillsdale in the regional final 25-18, 25-15, 25-23. It is the second time in program history that the Greyhounds have reached the Elite Eight.

• Jeff Thompson (Louisville baseball, Floyd Central graduate, Jr.) — top performance: winning pitcher in a starting role in the Cardinals’ 12-4 home victory over Pittsburgh on Friday, seven innings pitched, three runs allowed (all earned), three hits, seven strikeouts, three walks; notes: Thompson became the sixth pitcher in U of L history to earn 10 or more victories in a season on Friday; he is one win away from tying the school record for most victories in a season; Friday’s win clinched the Cardinals a share of the Big East Conference championship; they claimed the outright conference title on Saturday with a 7-4 home triumph over the Panthers; team records: 46-10 overall, 20-4 Big East; Thompson’s record: 10-1. -
