NORTH VERNON —
Floyd Central gave up a season-low eight points as the Highlanders won their second game of the season, 12-8 over Jennings County.
The Panthers’ only score came on a fourth-quarter fumble return.
The eight points is the fewest Floyd Central has surrendered since a 31-6 win over Madison on Sept. 3, 2010. Jennings County managed just 167 total yards in the loss.
“Our defense held them and forced some punts,” Highlander coach Brian Glesing said. “Our defense played outstanding.”
Offensively, the Highlanders scored a pair of second-quarter touchdowns to take the lead for good. Chase Herron scored on a six-yard run and Garry Posey scored from four yards out.
Posey finished with a game-high 147 yards on 19 carries and Herron rushed 12 times for 75 yards for a Floyd team that didn’t attempt a pass.
“We were able to control the ball the whole game with our running game,” Glesing said. “And when it wsa fourth and short, we felt comfortable going for it because we felt we could trust our defense.”
Floyd hosts rival New Albany in both teams’ regular-season finale next Friday.
