> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Alex Tinsley and the Silver Creek girls’ basketball team spoiled Scottsburg’s Senior Night on Saturday at Meyer Gymnasium with a 45-41 victory.

Tinsley, a senior forward, recorded a double-double with a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds. Dragons’ senior guard Lexi McFarland scored 12 points, nailing four 3-pointers.

After falling behind 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, Silver Creek outscored the Warriorettes 12-6 in the second to go up 20-17 at halftime. The Dragons then outscored the Warriorettes 25-24 in a tight second half.

Silver Creek coach Scott Schoen credited his players, especially senior guard Brooke Barnett, for making several clutch plays down the stretch.

“Brooke Barnett did a good job of getting girls open. Our girls made some big plays,” Schoen said. “It was nip-and-tuck all the way. Scottsburg has a good team and they are not going to back down from anybody.”

The Dragons (14-6, 7-2 Mid-Southern Conference) extended their winning streak to three games. They will host Floyd Central (10-9) for their Senior Night on Thursday.

The loss hurt the Warriorettes’ chances of winning the MSC championship. Scottsburg (12-7, 7-1 MSC) is now a half-game behind conference leader Austin (8-1 MSC) in the standings. Saturday’s loss by the Warriorettes gave the Eagles at least a share of the MSC title. Scottsburg must win at Brownstown on Tuesday to secure a piece of the conference crown.

• Braves extend win streak to 4: Junior Carson Casey scored a season-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead host Borden to its fourth straight victory on Saturday, beating South Central 66-40.

Casey shot 10-of-14 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Teammate Abby Ellis tallied 18 points, shooting 9-of-12 from the floor.

Also for the Braves, senior Leslie Beatty recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, freshman Natalie Ruedinger had eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists and junior Shelby Kirchgessner dished out seven assists.

Borden shot 29-of-55 from the field (52.7 percent), while holding the Rebels (6-13, 2-3 Southern Athletic Conference) to 14-of-46 shooting (30.4 percent).

“We shot well and defended well and put together a lot of good minutes of basketball,” Braves’ coach Terry Rademacher said.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

• Highlanders fall to Reitz: Floyd Central suffered its third loss in four contests on Saturday night, losing to Evansville Reitz (10-6) at Highlander Gymnasium 74-56.

Sophomore Jackson Logsdon led Floyd Central with 17 points, knocking down three 3-pointers. Teammate Drew Hussung chipped in 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

NEXT: Floyd Central (4-13) hosts Bedford North Lawrence (6-10), Friday.

• Clarksville destroys Rebels: Class 2A No. 6 Clarksville won its sixth straight game in blowout fashion, 70-36 on Saturday.

The 34-point margin is the Generals’ largest of the season. They defeated Silver Creek 77-47 on Nov. 30 in their previous largest margin.

Clarksville is a half-game behind Class 3A No. 5 Brownstown Central, which defeated Corydon Central 55-39 on Saturday, at the top of the Mid-Southern Conference standings. The Generals and Braves meet on Friday with the league lead — and likely the championship — on the line.

Clarksville-Southwestern game details were not made available at press time.
