Kimmel fourth at Pocono
Last Saturday, Clarksville native Frank Kimmel continued his streak of top-five finishes by placing fourth in the Pennsylvania ARCA 125 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. It was the fourth consecutive top-five finish for the nine-time ARCA Racing Series champion.
Kimmel finished in the top five after battling a vibration on the 34th lap.
“We blistered the right-rear tire a little bit again, so that is probably what caused the vibration on the second run,” Kimmel said in a statement. “On sticker tires, the car was really free, and the whole second run we were really free. We ran as fast as we did all day the last few laps, and the car started to come around. We learned more this weekend and should be able to apply what we learned to this race car for the future. It’s always nice to have solid top-five runs and stay in the thick of the points battle.”
Kimmel now trails ARCA points leader Brennan Poole by 80 points.
Kimmel’s nephew, Will Kimmel, wound up ninth in the Clarksville-based Kimmel Racing Ford. It was the Sellersburg resident’s fifth top-five finish of the season. Henryville resident Darrell Basham ended up 28th.
Chad Hackenbracht won the race, followed by Poole and Alex Bowman. Chris Buescher was fifth.
ARCA’s next race will be this coming Saturday at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich.
