NEW ALBANY — Christian Academy seniors Aaron Hayes and DeVonta King had big nights in the Warriors’ 61-49 victory over Madison Shawe on Thursday.

Hayes scored 22 points and went over the 1,000-point mark in the first two minutes of the game. Hayes, who also had 10 rebounds, now has 1,018 points in his career.

King stole the show on Thursday, though. He finished with 27 points on 12-of-12 shooting with 12 rebounds in the victory.

The Warriors led from start to finish, including a 29-19 lead at the break. They finished off the Hilltoppers, who were led by Luke Higgins’ 17 points, with a 25-point fourth quarter.

The win ended a four-game losing streak for CAI (6-9), which will host Southwestern on Saturday afternoon.

• Dragons win fourth straight: After a 3-10 start, Silver Creek has won four straight games after Thursday’s 54-48 home win over Scottsburg (3-14, 2-7 Mid-Southern Conference).

The Dragons also have won back-to-back MSC games for the first time this season.

“It was an ugly game for three quarters,” Silver Creek coach Brandon Hoffman admitted. “We didn’t play our best game and Scottsburg really played well. We grinded it out in the end and pulled out an ugly one. Earlier in the year, we lost a lot of games like that. I thought it showed a lot of maturity to win when we didn’t play well.”

Lucas Barnett (13 points) and Zach Davidson (11) led Silver Creek in scoring. Sophomore Jake Steele finished with nine points, six boards and five blocked shots for the Dragons.

• New Wash wins again: New Washington won its third straight game for the second time this season following Thursday’s 45-37 win over Beth Haven (Ky.).

The Mustangs, who led 25-23 at the half, got a 14-point, five-rebound, two-assist performance from Tim Cochran. Logan Miles added nine points on three 3-pointers for New Wash.

After the two-point halftime lead, the Mustangs pulled away with an 11-4 third-quarter run.

Beth Haven was led by Brandon Cranford’s game-high 15 points.

• Cubs edge Rock Creek: Madison’s Landon Perry followed up a Rock Creek miss with the go-ahead basket with 35 seconds left as the Cubs rallied past Rock Creek 45-43 on Thursday.

Madison led 18-8 after one quarter, but the Lions pulled within 30-28 at the break.

Will Brown and Gedeon Nzombi led the Lions with 12 points apiece. Nick Macon had a game-high 16 points for Madison.

• Borden routs Medora: Ten different Braves scored as Borden whipped visiting Medora 69-31 on Thursday.

Billy Kirchgessner led the way with 14 points and Garrett Vick finished with 13 for the Braves, who led 18-7 after one quarter and 39-19 at the half.

Jalen McCoy added eight, Michael Lynch seven and Brian McGee six as Borden won its fifth straight.

NEXT: Borden (14-2) hosts Springs Valley (6-10), Saturday.

• Musketeers rout Henryville: Austin Churchman had a team-best 26 points as Eastern ran past Henryville, 89-53 on Thursday.

The victory is the Musketeers’ fourth in their last five games.

The Hornets were led by Tyler Collins’ 30 points.
