Floyd Central limited host North Harrison to one point in the opening eight minutes and dominated the Lady Cats on Saturday, 78-23.
Junior Jennifer Smith outscored the host on her own, totalling 24 points in the win.
Floyd led 31-7 at half and 53-12 after three quarters.
“It was a full 32-minute effort,” said Highlander coach Joe Voelker. “It’s the first time all year that we’ve won all four quarters on the scoreboard, so it was good to see that out of us.”
Camry Hinton scored 15 point and Marcedes Bierman hit three 3-pointers on her way to 11 for the Highlanders. Brigid Morrissey also reached double figures with 10 in the victory.
The Highlanders will travel to Charlestown on Wednesday.
• Bulldogs fall to Jennings County, 58-46: The New Albany girls’ basketball team dropped to 0-2 in Hoosier Hills Conference play on Saturday, falling at Jennings County 58-46. It was the Panthers’ first victory of the season after five consecutive losses.
Bulldog guard Kayton Cole followed up her 45-point effort in a 64-60 victory over Scottsburg on Thursday with a game-high 21 points. Cole was the only New Albany player to score in double figures.
Freshman Tanner Marcum chipped in eight points.
Second-year coach Amanda Carmichael was not pleased with the way the Bulldogs (4-2) started the contest. They trailed 17-5 after one quarter and were behind 29-16 at halftime.
“It’s something we’ve got to get better at,” Carmichael said. “We’ve got to stop the slow starts coming out of the box.”
New Albany will travel to Southwestern on Tuesday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
• Highlanders drop road game: Floyd Central hung tough with unbeaten Evansville Harrison throughout the contest, but fell in the end, 71-62.
Three Highlanders were in double figures. Senior Cody Banet and Ben Allen each had 16 points and junior Barrett Crone added 15 for 1-2 Floyd Central.
The two sides were tied at 21-all after the first period and the Warriors took a 38-33 halftime lead. They stretched their advantage to 55-48 after three periods.
Junior Yawan Woolfolk had a game-high 26 points for Harrison.
• CAI Hutchinson proud of Warriors following 61-44 loss: Christian Academy fell to 0-4 after a 61-44 loss to Paoli on Saturday, but Warrior coach Joshua Hutchison said afterward that he liked the progress his team is making.
“I’m proud of my team for responding against Paoli after a poor showing against West Washington,” Hutchinson said, referring to Friday’s 79-28 loss to the Senators. “It was a huge step of progress.”
Freshman Cody Bachman had 17 points and seven rebounds — both team highs — for CAI. Fellow-freshman Greg Laughlin added 13 points for the Warriors, who host 1-4 South Central next Friday.
Logan Laswell led the Rams, now 3-2, with 29 points.
