LITTLE LEAGUE ROUNDUP: Creek pitcher throws no-hitter in 16-0 win over Scott County

New Albany 9-10s improve to 2-0 with 12-2 victory

CHARLESTOWN —  

Jordan Balz tossed a four-inning no-hitter to lead the Silver Creek 9-10-year-old All-Star softball team to a 16-0 victory over Scott County on Monday in the District V tournaments at Charlestown Little League Park. Balz struck out 12 and walked one.

Silver Creek (3-0) needed only five hits to score its 16 runs. Collecting singles for Silver Creek were Balz, Elayna Balingit, Mazben Ragland, Lindsay Evans and Kira Gibson. Silver Creek scored four runs in the first inning, seven in the second and five in the third.

Silver Creek clinched the No. 1 seed in Thursday’s semifinals with Monday’s win. It will play the first semi at 5:30 p.m.

• New Albany downs Charlestown: New Albany remained undefeated in the District V tourney with a 12-2 victory over Charlestown in four innings.

New Albany’s Olivia King got the win on the mound. In four innings of work, King allowed one hit and three walks while striking out eight.

For New Albany (2-0), Morgan Jenks had two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases, Kelsey Adams scored twice and Dani Grant smacked a first-inning home run.

Andrea McCoy collected the only hit for Charlestown (1-1). 

Both teams play today. New Albany faces Jeff/GRC at 5:30 p.m., while Charlestown will take on Clarksville at 8 p.m.

 

11-12 BASEBALL

• HYR thumps Clarksville: Highlander Youth Recreation improved its pool-play record to 3-1 with a 14-2 victory over Clarksville (0-4).

HYR scored at least twice in every inning of the four-frame contest, and led 12-2 after three. 

Mitchell Bailey recorded the win for HYR, while Nathan Long took the loss for Clarksville. Long also helped his cause with a double in defeat. Pitching stats were not available. 

Sam Weiser singled twice to lead the HYR offense. 

HYR advances to the tournament semifinals on Thursday. 

 

9-10 BASEBALL

• HYR dispatches Silver Creek: HYR scored three runs in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to pull away from Silver Creek in a 9-3 victory. It was the District V tournament opener for both teams.

HYR’s Tyler Allred, Joey Wilson and Bryce Hutchins each had two hits, with Wilson collecting a double. HYR starting pitcher Justin Bailey got the win.

Silver Creek’s Dylan Murphy had three hits, while teammate Kyle Snell chipped in a pair of hits, including a double.

HYR will play Scott County at 8 tonight. Silver Creek will square off with New Albany at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
