North Vernon —
The New Albany football team could not slow down Jennings County running back Iyan Bass on Friday night and lost on the road, 30-28.
Bass rushed for 311 yards to lead the Panthers (1-2, 1-0 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) to their second consecutive victory in their series with the Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1). Bass had 166 rushing yards in the first half.
New Albany quarterback Chris Whitehead had another impressive game rushing the football. Whitehead scampered for 221 yards, 120 coming in the first half, while teammate Jalen Forrest rushed for 105 yards.
The Bulldogs made a rally in the fourth quarter. Trailing 30-21 with 10 seconds left in regulation, New Albany’s LaRonn Davis caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Whitehead to trim the Bulldogs’ deficit to two.
But the Bulldogs failed to recover an onside kick, enabling Jennings to collect its first win of the season.
New Albany will host Bedford North Lawrence next Friday.
