WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. —
The IU Southeast men’s basketball team eclipsed the century mark for the second consecutive game on Saturday, defeating host Point Park 108-75.
The Grenadiers, ranked 17th in the latest NAIA Division II Top 25 poll, had five players score in double figures.
Junior guard Cameron Mitchell led IU Southeast (11-3, 2-0 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) with a game-high 25 points. Mitchell also recorded a game-high eight rebounds and three steals.
Teammate Jake Simpson posted 22 points, while Grenadier senior guard Haris Batalevic recorded 14 points and a game-high six assists. Also for IU Southeast, Jeffersonville High School product Kegan Clark had 13 points, four assists and two steals and sophomore Tyrell Means tallied 12 points, a game-high eight boards, a game-high four steals and two assists.
IU Southeast will host Miami (Ohio)-Middletown at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
• Grenadiers fall at Point Park: IU Southeast suffered its third loss in the last four contests on Saturday with a 63-56 setback at Point Park.
Heather Wheat, the reigning KIAC Player of the Week, paced the Grenadiers (7-7, 0-3 KIAC) with a game-high 27 points. She also had five rebounds and a game-high three steals.
New Albany High School graduate Tionna Peters was the only other IU Southeast player to score in double digits. The freshman had 13 points.
Point Park led by as many as 16 points in the second half. But Peters hit a jumper with 34 seconds in regulation to pull the Grenadiers to within five at 61-56.
But Point Park’s Emily Schartner sealed the victory with 16 seconds remaining by nailing a pair of free throws.
IU Southeast will travel to Brescia on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
