HANOVER —
The Henryville girls’ basketball team outscored host Southwestern 8-4 in overtime to extend its winning streak to six games with a 57-53 victory on Thursday night.
The Hornets’ star of the night was Emily Hollis. The freshman guard scored a game-high 23 points as she knocked down six 3-pointers.
Along with lauding Hollis for her shooting, Henryville coach Josh Conrad credited senior guards Jasmine Harrell and Chelsea LaMotte for getting the ball to Hollis.
“She’s a shooter and she was ready to shoot tonight,” Conrad said about Hollis. “Jasmine and Chelsea did a good job of getting her the ball. We did the best job this season of moving the ball as a team.”
Henryville freshman Emma Hendricks scored 11 points and Harrell chipped in 10.
Hollis nailed a shot in the opening moments of the extra session, and the Hornets did not look back after that.
“In the overtime, we got a good shot with Emily in the corner, and that got us going,” Conrad said.
NEXT: Henryville (9-6) hosts Christian Academy, Tuesday.
• Braves prevail at Orleans: Borden snapped a two-game losing skid on Thursday night with a 39-30 triumph at Orleans.
Leslie Beatty was the only Brave to score in double digits with 19 points. Teammate Abby Ellis poured in eight.
The key quarter for Borden was the second, as it outscored the Bulldogs 15-5 to take a 22-9 lead at halftime. Orleans won the second half, 21-17.
“It was a good win for us,” Braves’ coach Terry Rademacher said. “The key throughout the game was our defense. We did a good job on [the Bulldogs’ Shelbi] Samsil. In the second quarter, we got a couple shots and built a nice lead.”
NEXT: Borden (7-5) hosts Seymour, Saturday.
