A solid floor game by sophomore Erin Mikel enabled the Borden girls’ basketball team to defeat host Clarksville on Tuesday night, 54-41.
Mikel scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists. Teammate McKenna Williams led the Braves (7-12) with a game-high 13 points. Borden forward Allison Rademacher chipped in eight.
The Braves led 30-22 at halftime and then outscored the Generals (3-16) 19-11 in the third quarter to go up 49-33. For the game, Borden made seven steals.
“It was a big win,” Braves’ head coach Charlie Gardner said. “We knew it was their Senior Night, so we knew we were going to be in for a fight.”
Ashley Parrish was Clarksville’s top scorer with 12 points. Teammate Kiersten Hall posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Both squads will return to action on Thursday. Borden will host Springs Valley, while the Generals will visit Corydon.
• Eve leads Pioneers past Lanesville: Senior Megan Eve scored a game-high 20 points to lead Providence past host Lanesville, 54-39. It was the Pioneers’ third win in the last five contests.
Providence junior Kallie Ash scored 11 points, while teammate Abby Swartz chipped in eight.
For the game, the Pioneers (7-12) shot 29-of-37 from the free-throw line. As for the Eagles, they were 17-of-29 from the stripe.
Providence pulled out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter. With the Pioneers up 28-17 at halftime, they outscored Lanesville 15-7 in the third period to increase their advantage to 19 points.
“We knew it was going to be a game where we would have to find a way to win,” Providence head coach Brad Burden said.
The Pioneers will travel to Class 4A No. 3 Jeffersonville on Thursday.
