CLARKSVILLE —  On a day when the elements prevented a full meet, the Silver Creek boys’ track team won a triangular meet against Providence and Clarksville, while the Pioneers won the girls’ meet at Clarksville on Monday.

The Dragons won the boys’ meet with a score of 60, edging Providence’s 55. Clarksville finished third with 25 points. “I think the team’s come a long way, especially as young as we are,” Silver Creek assistant coach Todd Balmer said. “We’re seeing a lot of improvement, especially with our young people. We’ve got a lot of young kids that are stepping up and training hard.”

The Pioneers took the girls’ meet — a dual meet — with 87 points, outdistancing Silver Creek’s 38.

“Our team’s coming along very well,” Providence assistant coach Susan Cox said. “We have played around with some order of people in relays and things, and I think we’re really starting to come together, especially our (400) relay, which ran its best time today. We have a lot of young runners that are finally starting to get into the swing of things this season.”

For Silver Creek, the effort was led by Isaac Haas, who posted a time of 4:42 to place first in the 1,600-meter run.

Also for Silver Creek, Jason Fruits took the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16, Collin Scott was the day’s best with a 5-foot leap in the high jump and Morgan Davidson was first in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.8.

For Providence, Aaron Hickerson led the way with two first-place finishes on the day. He won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.9, and then put together an 18-foot, 8 1/2-inch long jump for another victory, despite battling a fever.

Also for the Pioneers, Quentin Hublar raced to a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 11.66, while Owen Mattingly took first place in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.86.

Silver Creek was the meet’s best in the 3,200 relay with a time of 9:48, while Providence won the 400-meter relay in 46.39.

The Providence girls were led by Maryashly Betz, who won both the high and low hurdle events. Betz completed the 100-meter low hurdles in 18.71, and came back to place first in the 300-meter high hurdles in 50.4.

Leah Mattingly also got Providence a win, going first in the 400-meter run, finishing in 1:04. Freshman Patricia Mattingly took the long jump with a 15-foot, 2-inch effort, the first time she’s eclipsed 15 feet during the season, Cox said.

“We’re really excited about that,” Cox said.

Also for Providence, Charmaine Solis took the 200-meter dash, Mackenzie Wilson won the 100-meter dash and Makenzie Ackerman had the best throw in the shot put.

Providence won the short-distance relay.

Silver Creek wins came via Brittany Sharp in the 1,600, Maggie Shields in the 800 and Emily Christman in the discus throw.
