> SOUTHERN INDIANA —
The Floyds Knobs Post 42 baseball team extended its winning streak to five games with a 4-1 victory over Rockport at Highlander Field on Friday.
“We played a good ballgame tonight,” Floyds Knobs coach Ricky Romans said. “We played a really good team tonight, too, so it was a nice win for us.”
Alex Wiseman went the distance on the mound for Post 42, striking out two and walking two in a 108-pitch effort. He surrendered six hits and one earned run.
“He did a good job of getting ahead of his hitters. He kind of got off to a rough start early, kind of really didn’t attack the batters like we hoped he would,” Romans said. “He settled down after the first inning and really coasted from there. ... He had his change-up working pretty well tonight, and the defense just played fabulous ball behind him. So Alex did exactly what he needed to do. Real good outing from him.”
Meanwhile, Floyds Knobs produced eight hits, including a two-out single by Jeremy Eger in the home third that plated Josh Wenning and Tyler Willinger.
Collin Book was the only player with multiple hits for Floyds Knobs. He was 2-for-3.
“It’s a good thing. We had eight hits, and against that team and their pitcher, that’s good,” Romans said. “Coming in, if we had known we were going to get a 4-1 victory against this team with eight hits, we’d have taken it all day long. We have a few guys, they’re not necessarily producing from a hit standpoint, but they’re making productive outs.”
Floyds Knobs (7-4) travels to Castle today to play a doubleheader against Newburgh.
