Borden outscored Christian Academy 26-17 in the half en route to a 43-34 home victory on Saturday.
Shelby Kirchgessner scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the second half as the Braves improved to 2-1.
“We’re always happy with a win,” Borden coach Terry Rademacher said following the victory in which the Braves made just 11 of 42 field goals and CAI went 12 for 50. The teams also combined for 38 turnovers.
Kirchgessner went 8-for-10 from the foul line, where Borden outscored the Warriors 21-8.
Abby Ellis didn’t make a field goal, but she scored three points and led Borden with 13 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Leslie Beatty chipped in with 10 points and Kristen Nestor and Natalie Rueding scored seven apiece.
Krista Boesing led CAI with 11 points and Allison Burch added eight.
NEXT: Borden (2-1) at New Washington, Tuesday (rescheduled for 7 p.m. tip); Christian Academy (0-4) at Cannelton, Dec. 8.
BOYS
• Balanced Borden blows out Jug Rox: Borden had three double-figured scores and three more Braves scored at least five points in Saturday’s 62-38 win at Shoals.
Borden jumped out to an 18-5 lead after one quarter and a 37-17 halftime lead.
“Our kids played hard,” Borden coach Doc Nash said. “I thought we played really, really hard and we did a nice job of rebounding. We have to get a little more intelligent. That will get better with time.”
Jalen McCoy led the Braves with 16 points and hit four shots beyond the 3-point line. Michael Lynch added 12 and Josh Vollstedt scored 11, including three 3-pointers. Garrett Vick finished with seven points and Josh Ruedinger and Cody Bachman contributed with five apiece.
Cole Kimmel led the Jug Rox (0-2) with 17 points.
The Braves are back in action on Friday when they host rival Lanesville (1-1) in their Southern Athletic Conference opener.
“We’ve got a big test on Friday against Lanesville,” Nash said. “We’ll be ready to play. It will be a 32-minute war. I look for an exciting atmosphere.
