SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. —
Early in the season, Christian Academy of Indiana dropped some decisions it probably shouldn’t have.
As the season has progressed, the Warriors have finished off their opponents, including Thursday’s 62-47 victory over North Bullitt in Shepherdsville. The victory extends the Warriors’ winning streak to three games.
“I still think we have some things we need to fix before sectional,” CAI coach Steve Kerberg said. “But it’s nice to get some wins. We’ve had a lot of close losses this year. I’m happy for the kids to get some wins. Winning can be contagious.”
The Warriors came out strong on Thursday, outscoring the Eagles 16-4 in the first quarter. After North Bullitt cut the gap to 30-22 at the half, CAI put the game away with a 14-6 third-quarter advantage.
“For spurts in the game, we played really well offensively and really well defensively,” Kerberg said. “We’re still not sustaining that for four quarters. I feel like we can be a really good basketball team if we can sustain that effort.”
Seniors DeVonta King and Aaron Hayes led the Warriors’ offensive attack. King had a game-high 17 and Hayes added 15. King also finished with six boards and a pair of blocks.
“I think a lot of our team feeds off of DeVonta King,” Kerberg said. “He played hard defensively tonight and the kids fed off that. I don’t think he realizes how much the younger kids look up to him as a leader. He really makes us go sometimes.”
Ten different Warriors scored in the victory, including NIck Reed, who had six. Ricky Dunnavon led a very balanced Eagles’ effort with 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
