BORDEN — The Borden girls’ basketball team concluded its regular season on a positive note on Thursday night at home, defeating Springs Valley 55-39. It was the Braves’ Senior Night.
Sophomore Shelby Kirchgessner topped the Borden scoring column with a game-high 17 points. Seniors Erin Mikel and Allison Rademacher, who played their final regular-season games with the Braves (14-6), scored 16 and 10 points, respectively. Fellow senior Allison Bishop added eight.
Borden led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter and 32-17 at halftime.
“We got off to a good start,” Borden head coach Terry Rademacher said. “It was a good win for us and a good way for us to end the regular season.”
The Braves will begin defense of its Class A Borden Sectional championship at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when they host Christian Academy of Indiana in the first round.
• Hornets cruise past Rock Creek: Henryville won on its Senior Night over visiting Rock Creek Community Academy, 68-17. The Lions’ 17 points were the fewest scored by a Hornet opponent this season.
Senior Jenna Harrell paced Henryville (13-9) with a game-high 15 points. Hornet senior guard Allison Knox chipped in 10, while junior Jasmine Harrell added eight.
After leading 19-8 after the opening quarter, Henryville blanked Rock Creek (1-19) in the second period 15-0 to take a 34-8 advantage at intermission.
The Hornets will face Providence in the Class 2A Eastern Sectional opener at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will face either Borden or CAI in the first semifinal of the Class A Borden Sectional at 6 p.m. next Friday.
• Generals fall to Corydon: Clarksville’s losing streak grew to 14 games with a 54-17 loss at Corydon. It was the Generals’ regular-season finale. No other details were reported from the game.
Clarksville (4-18, 0-9 Mid-Southern Conference) will face Class 2A No. 3 Eastern at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the first round of the 2A Eastern Sectional.
