JEFFERSONVILLE —
New Albany senior Hannah Manger continued her legendary swimming career on Saturday, qualifying for today’s 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley final heats.
Manger finished fifth in the 100 backstroke in 56.26 and eighth in the 200 IM in Friday’s state finals qualifying heats. On Saturday, she will get a shot at swimming for a state championship at IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. Manger swam in the IM in 2:03.98 and the backstroke in 56.26, more than 2 1/2 seconds faster than her sectional championship winning time.
Manger’s teammate Rachel Klein will also swim on Saturday. Klein qualified for the consolation heat with a 16th-place finish in the 50 freestyle. She swam the 50 in 24.35. Klein later finished 20th in the 100 free in 53.56.
Manger and Klein teamed with Alexis Lete and Reagan Thom to place 14th and qualify for Saturday’s consolation heat in the 200 free relay. The foursome swam the race in 1:39.17.
In the last event of the night, Mager, Klein, Thom and Lete finished 18th in the state in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:37.71.
Floyd Central sophomore Meg Taylor also qualified for today’s consolation in the 500 freestyle. Taylor qualified 16th, dropping nearly seven seconds off of her sectional-winning time. She finished the 500 yards in 5:06.64.
Taylor just missed the cut n the 200 freestyle, finishing in 18th, less than a second behind 16th-place Allison Cunningham of Munster.
Highlander sophomore Maryn Meldrum placed 29th in the state in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.59. Taylor, Meldrum, Amy McCormick and Sarah Taylor combined to finish 25th in the 200 freestyle relay. The Taylors, Jessica Ingram and McCormick placed 28th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:45.69.
Jeffersonville junior Karlee Demsey placed 29th in the state in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.64. Earlier in the night, Jeff’s 200 medley relay team of Demsey, Samantha Glover, Yanna Martin and Elizabeth Browne finished 28th overall.
