CLARKSVILLE —
Tyler Rhodes shut down the Clarksville offense on Thursday, limiting the Generals to just two hits in a 4-1 Pirate win at Wayne Stock Field.
Rhodes threw a complete game, striking out seven in the victory.
“Tyler just threw an exceptional ball game,” said Pirate head coach Ricky Romans. “We had been struggling a little bit coming in and he did everything that we needed him to do for our ballclub tonight.”
Michael Willinger’s double was part of a six-hit attack for Charlestown, which improved to 8-6 overall with the win.
For Clarksville, Drew Kissel doubled and Derrick McNew added a single, but it was some blunders on the base paths that had coach Chris Kane looking for answers after the setback.
“We didn’t get a lot of baserunners, and when we did it didn’t seem like we knew what we were doing out there,” said Kane. “We ran ourselves out of three innings with mistakes on the bases, and when you don’t put runs on the board, those things just get magnified.”
McNew took the tough-luck loss on the hill. He gave up four runs (three earned) while walking one and fanning five.
The win pushed Charlestown back over .500 in Mid-Southern Conference play at 3-2 overall. The Pirates will host SIlver Creek in another MSC game on Monday.
