After winning its first game in three years in its opener, Clarksville fell to 1-1 after a 25-9, 25-14, 25-17 loss to Southwestern on Wednesday.
“Our serve-receive fell apart tonight,” Generals coach John McEwen said. “We did fight harder as the sets went on, which is evident from the scores.”
Junior Ali Sparkman led Clarksville with five kills, three blocks and seven digs. Hannah Elder led the Generals with four assists despite seeing significant action only in the final set.
“Hannah Elder stepped in a did an amazing job,” McEwen said.
Clarksville hosts Charlestown and Brownstown Central in a double-dual on Saturday.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
• Bulldogs win opener over Forest Park: New Albany opened the 2012 campaign with a 3-2 win at Forest Park on Tuesday. Rachel Geveden scored two goals, including the game-winner with 30 seconds left, and Stephanie Iglesias had a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs.
NEXT: New Albany (1-0) vs. Castle and Lawrenceburg at the Columbus North Tournament, Saturday.
GIRLS’ GOLF
• Cooper ties for medalist honors: Clarksville’s Quincy Cooper shot a 41, tied with Salem’s Brittney Walker for medalist in Wedneday’s three-way meet with the Lions and Eastern at Wooded View. Mirandea DeKorte shot a 72 for the Generals.
