Brandon Beam gave Borden a new life late in regulation on Tuesday night in the season opener at Pekin Eastern.
Unfortunately for the home team, it wasn’t enough.
The Musketeers outscored Borden 10-6 in the extra session as they handed the Braves a 69-65 setback.
Beam converted on a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining to tie the contest at 59 all at the end of regulation.
From there though, mistakes plagued the Braves in the four-minute overtime session.
“We played our hearts out and left it all out there coming back and forcing overtime,” Nash said. “Unfortunately I feel like we beat ourselves in a lot of ways. Our mistakes caught up with us and we weren’t able to pull out a win.
“Pekin Eastern was definitely the better team tonight because they managed the win, but we played a big part in creating the loss for ourselves.”
Senior Dalton Wagoner along with Beam had 19 points in the loss for Borden. Jacob Rich added 17 for the Braves in the setback.
Michael Doebler scored 21 in the win for Pekin Eastern.
