NEW WASHINGTON —
New Washington swept Clarksville, Scottsburg and Charlestown to win Saturday’s New Wash Volleyball Invitational.
Following a 25-6, 25-18 win over Clarksville and a 25-21, 25-11 triumph over Scottsburg, the Mustangs defeated Charlestown 25-18 and 25-21 to clinch the invitational title.
Caroline Ricks led New Wash (17-9) on the day with 49 kills and had a 14-kill, five-dig, three-ace, two-block performance in the win over Scottsburg. Courtney Amick had 52 assists in the three victories.
After losing to New Washington in the opener, Clarksville recovered for wins over the Pirates and the Warriorettes to get to the Generals to 5-19 on the campaign.
Clarksville, which was winless over the past two seasons, lost to Charlestown during Mid-Southern Conference play.
“It was nice to get revenge on Charlestown,” Generals first-year coach John McEwen said. “Everybody just really fought.”
Ali Sparkman had a big day for Clarksville with 28 kills, 38 digs and eight blocks.
“Ali has led us all year,” McEwen said, “whether she’s in the front row or the back row.”
Hannah Elder had a three-match total of 43 assist for the Generals.
