> SOUTHERN INDIANA —
The Floyd Central girls’ basketball team rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat visiting Seymour on Tuesday night at Highlander Gymnasium, 64-58. It was the Hoosier Hills Conference opener for both squads.
Trailing 32-23 at intermission, the Highlanders outscored the Owls in the third quarter, 24-11 to go up 47-43 at the end of the stanza. Floyd Central proceeded to win the fourth quarter, 17-15 to seal its second consecutive victory.
“Our defensive intensity picked up and we played more physical. I thought we punched them in the mouth in the second half,” Highlanders’ coach Kirk Hamsley said.
Four Floyd Central players scored in double figures. Sophomore forward Madison Kaiser paced the Highlanders with a game-high 21 points. Junior guard Brooke Hinton chipped in 14 points, while senior center Niki Bruno had 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Riley Kaiser scored 10 points.
“That was great to see. In the third and fourth quarters, we picked it up offensively,” Hamsley said.
