SELLERSBURG —
All five of Floyd Central’s golfers were within eight shots of the medalist — the Highlanders’ Jay Holderman — as the Highlanders captured the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational title at Covered Bridge Golf Club on Saturday.
Floyd’s 314 was eight shots better than runner-up Evansville Harrison.
Holderman beat teammate Jared Sturgeon on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. Holderman and Sturgeon each parred the first playoff hole. On the second, Holderman parred, while Sturgeon bogeyed.
Floyd’s David Frank finished fourth with a 79, only three shots behind Holderman and Sturegon. The Highlanders’ Austin Peckham shot an 83, and teammate Sam Gesenhaues had an 84.
“I was pretty happy with the scores,” Highlander coach Mike Cason said. “It was rainy and cold for the first hour and a half. I think these are really good scores, considering the weather conditions today.”
Host New Albany finished fourth with a 355, while Jeffersonville’s 369 was good for seventh. Silver Creek was 10th with a 417, and Clarksville was 11th with a 476.
