Taylor Patty scored the game’s lone goal with 19 minutes remaining to give Floyd Central a 1-0 win over Jasper at home on Thursday.
Patty took a pass from Lauren Haley just inside the Jasper box and put the ball in the left side of the net.
“It was just a rocket,” Floyd coach Lewie Stevens said.
The win gives the Highlanders a 4-1 mark heading into Saturday’s big Hoosier Cup at Bloomington.
“These are two really quality wins in a row,” Stevens said of Thursday’s victory and Saturday’s 1-0 win over Mercy Academy (Ky.). “These are game we may not have won last year that we’re putting in the win column this season.”
• Creek downs Scottsburg, 6-1: Molly Voyles had two goals and an assist to help Silver Creek to a 6-1 victory over Scottsburg.
Haley Tuner added two goals, and Kathleen Himmelheber had a goal and assisted on both of Voyles’ goals.
Deziree Cook scored on a free kick for the Dragons, who go to Jeffersonville on Thursday.
“I am very proud of how the girls played tonight,” Dragon coach Danielle Hintons aid. “Tonight’s game was a great win and a progressive step in going undefeated for the conference titile.”
Victoria Santiago scored Scottsburg’s lone goal.
BOYS’ SOCCER
• Providence battles Jennings to 4-4 draw: Pierce Crawley scored three of Providence’s four goals as Providence tied Jennings County, 4-4 on Thursday.
Wade Brown had the other goal for Providence.
Josh Maled, Trent Brown and West Schrank each had an assist for the Pioneers, who will participate in the Hoosier Cup in Bloomington on Saturday.
• Charlestown falls to Madison, 3-1: Madison jumped out to a 3-0 lead and defeated Charlestown, 3-1 on Thursday.
Sasha Weddington scored Charelstown’s lone goal with 22 minutes remaining. Weddington’s goal came on an assist Kyle Jenkins.
Despite the loss, Pirate coach Andrew Smith said he ws happy with his team’s effort.
“All in all I am very pleased with the way our team played today,” Smith said. “In the past a team like Madison would have rolled over us mercilessly. Our boys are learning a lot very quickly, and unlike in years past, they are executing what they have learned on the field.”
Smith said Pirate keeper Cody Brinck helped Charlestown stay in the contest with eight saves and several other nice plays in goal. He also praised the play of Weddington, Lucas Taylor and Brandon Lyons.
“It’s the players like Lucas Taylor and Brandon Lyons who are stepping into this game for the first time that are helping this team get better and better on a daily basis,” Smith said.
Charlestown travels to Scottsburg tonight.
GIRLS’ GOLF
• Jeff shows improvement in win over Charlestown: Three of four Jeffersonville golfer shot a season-best round as the Red Devils defeated Charlestown, 187-222.
“(That) should help their confidence on the course,” Jeff coach Shadd Clarke said. “With only a few weeks before the conference and sectionals, I am looking foward to seeing more improvement from our team.”
Erica Shepherd led Jeff with a match-best 36. Amber Collins and Tierney Mulleach shot a 47, and Madison Kane added a 57 for Jeff.
“Tierney Mull and Amber Collins really played well today and showed a lot of poise on the course,” Clarke said.
Ashley Hoff and Natalie Thompson led the Pirates with 55s. Marissa Knoebel and Sarah Trotter each shot a 56 for Charlestown.
Jeff will face New Albany at Valley View today, and Charlestown hosts Henryville today at Hidden Creek.
