>>SOUTHERN INDIANA — I find it peculiar that Mr. Matthew Nash made statements in an opinions column about a recent meeting regarding the sewer rate increases.
Everyone had the opportunity to make a statement or ask questions. If you were there, Mr. Nash, why didn¹t you speak? Could it be that all you want to do is belittle the people that you don't agree with?
You quoted a man that asked a very good question. However, you left part of what he said out. The man asked how our rates compared to other second class cities — if they were lower, then the increase could be justified. But why didn¹t you quote the second part of his statement?
He said, if our rates are higher than these other cities, and they ask for a large increase, then the people of the city need to get together and hire a lawyer and sue who's in charge. This is after they've already spent millions and millions of dollars to "fix" our sewers.
Why are you upset that Mr. Coffey had a town hall meeting to inform the people? Don't you think that people should be informed?
The meeting was well attended — over 100 were there. Sure, people were upset. The information that was given to the people was very enlightening, with all of it being documented. And it sure was nice that one of our city leaders cared enough about the people in our community to take the time to listen to and inform us.
What we need are honest and caring city leaders. Leaders that aren't afraid to stand up for what is right. Thank you, Mr. Coffey.
