LETTER: Reader responds to health care letter

Most assuredly, I agree that health care decisions should be made between the doctor and patient. Most people who have health insurance would agree.

The problem is we haven not had doctor-patient choice in 30 years, we are limited in the choice of our doctors. So, the real choice is who makes those decisions — the insurance companies, whose main obligations is to their stockholders, CEOs, CFOs, and the board of directors?

The only other choice is the government, whose obligation is to us, the voters, and the Constitution, which gives elected officials the obligation to protect its citizens, us, the voters.

As Betty Rinker mentioned in the last paragraph of her letter to the editor, at issue is the greedy big businesses and greedy insurance companies, and greedy lawyers. So, the obvious answer is in the last paragraph. Take greed out of the realm of health insurance by letting our government take over health insurance with a single-payer plan.

That would also take care of the greedy lawyers, because the richest lawyers are working for the insurance companies, finding ways to prevent claims, and enrich the corporation and stockholders.

Reagan was right, the government is the problem, when it doesn’t protect its citizens.
