Woman leaps from moving vehicle on Kennedy Bridge

Police: A domestic dispute in vehicle led to woman endangering her life

LOUISVILLE — A woman was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for non-life threatening injuries after stepping from a moving vehicle on John F. Kennedy Bridge about 9:20 a.m. today, officials with Louisville Metro Police Department reported.

LMPD have not released the name of the woman, who is reported to be in her 20s, or the man driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. The vehicle’s rate of speed when the woman left the car was not released by LMPD, but officials said the vehicle was not believed to have been traveling very fast. LMPD confirmed that the woman was not struck by a passing vehicle.

Jeffersonville police chief Chris Grimm said the woman and the man were having a dispute in the car prior to her stepping from the vehicle. LMPD said the nature of the couple’s relationship is undetermined. The man was questioned by investigators following the incident.

The couple was traveling northbound on Interstate 65 at the time of the incident, and the woman is believed to have exited the vehicle near the middle of the bridge, in LMPD’s jurisdiction.

The man continued driving into Indiana and stopped at the Court Avenue Thortons gas station where he called 911.
