CASI taking applications for energy assistance program

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Community Action of Southern Indiana will accept applications for the 2012 Summer Cool Program until Friday, in Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties.

The program awards $65 in electricity benefits to households that pay an electric utility bill directly to a utility vendor and have a current bill in the name of the head of household or a member 18 or older.

A household which did not receive heating benefits the prior winter must be determined eligible under the guidelines as a new applicant. The immediate application process is available to households that received the prior winter’s heat benefits. Only new households may apply.

Some households may be eligible to receive an air conditioner. To qualify, the household must be financially eligible for the program described above, must have a verified medical requirement for an air conditioner and must have a household member who is elderly, disabled or a child younger than 6. All three criteria must be met to receive an air conditioner with benefit once every five years.

In Clark County, visit CASI at 1613 E. Eighth St. in Jeffersonville or call 812-288-6451. In Floyd County, visit The Salvation Army, located at 2300 Green Valley Road in New Albany or call 812-944-1018.
