Seniors can learn more about Medicare, Social Security in Jeffersonville

Van will stop be in town on Friday

JEFFERSONVILLE — AARP recently launched “You’ve Earned a Say” to ensure that Americans’ voices are heard on the future of Medicare and Social Security. Locally, AARP Indiana is taking the debate out from behind closed doors in Washington, D.C., and going directly to Hoosiers in their communities.

The “You’ve Earned a Say” van will be in Jeffersonville from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. Organizers will provide information and conversation, games, giveaways and most importantly, the opportunity to make Hoosiers’ voices heard on the future of Medicare and Social Security.

The next president and Congress could very well decide the future of Medicare and Social Security. This debate is particularly critical in Indiana, where roughly 1.2 million people receive Social Security benefits, and nearly 60 percent of them rely on the benefits for 50 percent or more of their income. Medicare beneficiaries top 1 million, with that number sure to grow in the coming years.

The van will be parked outside the Ken Ellis Center, 1425 Pennsylvania Ave., Jeffersonville.
