Nominate your Woman of the Year

The News and Tribune has announced its third-annual Woman of the Year program for Southern Indiana and banquet, and nominations are being accepted.

The event will be Sept. 23 at Kye’s in Jeffersonville and proceeds benefit Childplace Inc.

Nominations will be accepted through July 29 for any woman who lives or works in Clark or Floyd counties. You can download the nomination form at newsandtribune.com or one can be found on page A2 of today’s paper.

Also, donations for an auction at the event are being accepted from area businesses.

Program on Clarksville history set

Jane Sarles, president of the Clarksville Historical Society, will present “The History of Clarksville, Indiana” at the Aug. 4 meeting of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society.

Sarles is the author of “Clarksville: An Images of America Book.”

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany.



Brain injury group to meet

The July meeting of the Southern Indiana Traumatic Brain Injury Foundation will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the theater at Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, 3401 Blackiston Blvd., New Albany.

JEFFERSONVILLE

Artist to share craft Thursday

Henryville artist Janice James is known for her Small Garden Buddies, as she refers to them, but they are also called Terra Cotta Pot People.  

These garden buddies are a creative and artistic way to decorate a garden or as a tabletop centerpiece.

This craft program will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library,  211 E. Court Ave. Jeffersonville,.

Participants must be 14 years of age and older. The class is limited to 20 persons and each person must pay a materials fee of $10 due at the beginning of the class.

Meeting on race set

NETWORK, an acronym meaning New Energy to Work Out Racial Kinks, plans to meet for a lunchtime discussion at noon July 28 at the Depot, 600 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville.

The topic will be: “America’s New Racial Majority: Are Latinos Getting the Respect that they Deserve?”  

Lillian Rose, co-administrator of the Hispanic Ministry, will facilitate the discussion.

NEW ALBANY

‘Totally Red’ performed for free

Dragonfly Theatre Summer Youth Players will present a free performance of the popular play “Totally Red” at 4 p.m. Friday at Strassweg Auditorium in the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany.

Church hosting neighborhood picnic

DePauw Methodist Church, across from New Albany High School at 925 Vincennes St., New Albany, will host a free neighborhood picnic from 4 to 6 p.m. July 30 at the church.

There will be free food, entertainment, games and free school supplies for children who attend,

The New Albany High School Class of 1981 will hold its 30th reunion from 7 to 11 p.m. July 23 at the Calumet Club in New Albany.

CLARKSVILLE

CHS class of ’66 to reunite

The Clarksville High School Class of 1966 will hold its 45-year class reunion from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Jeffersonville Elks Club.

Sandwiches, several hot hors d’oeuvres and cheese and vegetable trays will be served and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $28 per person.

The class will also meet at the Clarksville Holiday Inn for a gathering in the hotel bar/cocktail lounge area anytime after 6:30 p.m. Friday.
