CLARKSVILLE —
Several contracts were extended at the Clarksville Community Schools board of trustees meeting Tuesday night — one in particular with urgency and another with hesitation.
Still trying to sell the former George Rogers Clark Elementary School on Stansifer Avenue, the board unanimously approved to keep the listing with Schuler Bauer Real Estate Services for another month.
The listing, which would have expired Friday, has the property priced at $695,000. James Bemiss, board member, said he hopes extending the listing will motivate the real estate company more to try to sell the property.
“Having noted little if any movement on this in the last year I’m going to suggest that we extend this listing contract for 30 days to give a sense of urgency to the Realtor,” Bemiss said.
The district closed the 44,367-square-foot school in 2010.
The board also unanimously approved the renewal of the district’s contract with the Clark County Special Education Cooperative, but not without voicing some concerns. Bemiss made the motion to accept the contract, but he said not without “a great deal of trepidation.”
All three districts in Clark County — West Clark Community Schools, Greater Clark County Schools and Clarksville Community Schools — pay for services from the co-op. Doug Wacker, board member, said his concern was with the lack of an evaluation process and control over evaluations from the districts who use the service.
“Obviously, we’re the smallest of the three, but those three superintendents should have at least some say in the evaluation process,” Wacker said after the meeting.
He said during the meeting that he understands the services are required to be in line with state law.
“I do understand that legally, we have to provide services for our kids, and it’s kind of as [Bemiss] said, this is the only ball game in town,” Wacker said. “But I like to get what I pay for and I don’t feel like we get that.”
Superintendent Kim Knott said the contract does outline some formation of policies, of which an evaluation process including district input could be written into.
